- Sacrum, ischium and the obturator membrane
- Insertion
- Greater trochanter, trochanteric fossa and intertrochanteric crest of the femur
- Action
- Laterally rotate and stabilise the hip
Six small muscles under the gluteus maximus, including the piriformis. They hold the femoral head in the socket and turn the leg outward.
